After a regular season of ups and downs for young Mets prospect, Andres Gimenez, the shortstop played to his prospect status.

Gimenez not only won the Arizona Fall League batting title with a .371 batting average, but also lead the league in OPS at .999. A marked improvement from his .250/.309/.387 line during the regular season, albeit while being a bit more than four years younger than the average competition in the Eastern League (AA).

The Arizona Fall League is a collection of the baseball’s minor league talent, and this fall had some heavy hitters. Gimenez lead these offensive categories in a league that housed such top position prospects like Jo Adell, Royce Lewis, and Alec Bohm. While not as many top pitching names were featured, there were still the likes of pitching talent such as Forrest Whitley, Shane Baz, and Daniel Lynch.

Gimenez is was also one of the younger players this fall, as he just turned 21 on the fourth of September. His performance this fall helps to settle the hearts of those concerned with a hand injury that lead him to a stint on the IL back in early June, and seemed to stunt his performance during the remainder of the month. Gimenez did pickup from July forward, posting a .761 OPS for the rest of the season

Gimenez will look to continue his improved performance into the regular season in 2020, as he moves up in the Mets depth chart as a more immediate option to the major leagues.
