New York Mets minor league shortstop Andres Gimenez was named to the Arizona Fall League All-Star team on Tuesday, as per an announcement from Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com.

The Fall Stars Game will take place on Saturday (8 PM EST) at Salt River Fields. Gimenez will represent the East squad.

The 21-year-old slashed .294/.333/.441 with a home run, two doubles, 13 RBIs, eight strikeouts, and two walks over 36 plate appearances with the Scottsdale Scorpions.

Gimenez experienced a down season with Double-A Binghamton in 2019 hitting .250/.309/.387 with nine homers, 22 doubles, 37 RBIs, and 102 strikeouts over 479 plate appearances.

After beginning the season as the 58th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, Gimenez dropped to 92nd by the end of the year.

Andres Gimenez’ resurgence in the desert certainly bodes well for his future development. But, with the progress Amed Rosario made at the major league level this season, the Venezuelan native may be blocked at his natural position for the foreseeable future.

We’ll keep you posted with more information when it becomes available.
