Syracuse (48-48) 15, Indianapolis (47-48) 5 Box Score

  • SS Danny Espinosa: 5-for-6, R, 2 2B, 3 RBI(58), SB(9) | .262/.346/.450
  • LF Travis Taijeron: 3-for-3, 4 R, 2 HR(21), 3 RBI(58), SB(5), BB | .243/.372/.576
  • RF Rymer Liriano: 3-for-5, 3 R, 2B, 2 HR(6), 6 RBI(17), BB | .211/.317/.390

Rallies in the second, third, and ninth inning resulted in a total of thirteen runs scoring as the Mets easily defeated the Indians to get back to .500. Liriano had himself a career day with a pair of three run home runs as part of the third and ninth inning rallies.

  • LHP Anthony Kay: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K, 2 BB, Win | 1-3, 6.66 ERA, 1.64 WHIP

Pitching with a sizable lead for most of the night, Kay needing only 80 pitches to complete in his first quality start at the (AAA) level and his first since May 20th with the (AA) Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Reading (57-37) 8, Binghamton (47-45) 6 Box Score

  • LF Barrett Barnes: 2-for-3, 3 R, HR(12), RBI(48), 2 BB | .255/.371/.476
  • 1B Jason Krizan: 3-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI(42) | .245/.328/.401

With the team down 7-3 after the fifth inning, Barnes and Krizan did their best to rally the Rumble Ponies offense with a solo home run in the fifth inning and a two RBI double in the seventh inning respectively. Outside of them though, only David Thompson could muster a base hit against the Fightin Phils bullpen.

  • LHP David Peterson: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, Loss | 3-3, 4.43 ERA, 1.43 WHIP
  • LHP Blake Taylor: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 1 BB | 0-0, 2.89 ERA, 0.91 WHIP

Peterson had his second worst start of the season (behind only his 1.2 IP, 7 ER performance on April 29th) as he had trouble with the long ball allowing two solo home runs. The stuff was good as he was certainly on pace to record his sixth double digit swinging strike game, but he just didn’t have command of his pitches leaving too many fastballs out over the plate. He also balked and uncorked a wild pitch before being lifted from the game after only 68 pitches.

Charlotte (57-36) 4, St. Lucie (50-45) 3 Box Score

The St. Lucie offense had plenty of base-runners yesterday but could not drive most of them in as the team went a collective 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position leaving a total of eleven runners on base. Cortes’ single (no runs scored) in the third inning and Winaker’s RBI single in the seventh inning were the only successful attempts of the game.

  • RHP Luc Rennie: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB | 5-4, 4.36 ERA, 1.36 WHIP
  • RHP Ezequiel Zabaleta: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB, Blown Save, Loss | 3-2, 2.52 ERA, 0.76 WHIP

After a rough start to the month of July (0-2, 9.00 ERA), Rennie finally turned in a solid start for the St. Lucie generating nine fly balls outs and getting plenty of help from his defense via a caught stealing by Dustin Houle and an outfield assist from Hansel Moreno. The Mets had the lead going into the ninth inning but the usually dominant Zabaleta had himself an off night, allowing two singles and a wild pitch to allow the game tying run to score in the ninth and then the winning run to score in the tenth. It is only the third time this season in sixteen appearances that Zabaleta has allowed a run to score and it was only the second time in the last eleven appearances that he’s even allowed a hit.

West Virginia (51-46) 4, Columbia (37-56) 3 Box Score

The Fireflies had at least one hit in seven of the nine innings in this ballgame but were only able to produce five opportunities with runners in scoring position as they struggled to string the hits together. The team was held to only one run through the first seven innings of the game before Vientos and Newton slugged solo home runs in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

  • RHP Simeon Woods Richardson: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 8 K, 0 BB | 2-8, 4.54 ERA, 1.24 WHIP
  • RHP Allan Winans: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, Loss | 0-2, 3.28 ERA, 1.26 WHIP

SWR was dominant yesterday as he generated thirteen swinging strikes with only 73 pitches (17.8% SwStr) resulting in eight strikeouts on the day. His only real mistake on the day was a first inning, first pitch solo home run. After a four game stretch in May where he allowed five earned runs each time, SWR has posted a 2.93 ERA with a 11.0 K/9 vs a 2.0 BB/9 rate while holding opponents to a .238 AVG/.630 OPS across his last ten starts.

Princeton (13-15) 7, Kingsport (14-14) 6 Box Score

It was a solid all around offensive day for Kingsport as four different player had multi-hit games and five different players drove in at least one RBI. As a team, they collectively went 5-for-13 with Runners in Scoring Position and only left a total of five runners on base.

  • LHP Cesar Loaiza: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 5 K, 0 BB | 1-0, 3.71 ERA, 1.24 WHIP
  • RHP Andres German: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 0 BB, Loss | 0-1, 8.59 ERA, 1.64 WHIP

The Mets pitching staff did not have as good of a day as the offense as they struggled to keep the ball in the park allowing five runs to score on four home runs including a game winning walk-off.

GCL Mets (12-7) 7, GCL Marlins (11-9) 3 Box Score

  • LF Zach Ashford: 2-for-4, R, 2B, BB | .269/.345/.423
  • 2B Jose Peroza: 2-for-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI(19), SB(1), BB, K | .304/.365/.714

Aided by six walks, the GCL Mets turned seven hits in seven runs with seven different players scoring once as the team extended its first place lead over the Marlins to 1.5 games. 2016 International signee, Jose Peroza continued his assault on GCL pitching with his seventh multi-hit performance this season in only fourteen games. His double in the third inning puts him alone at the top in the Gulf Coast League with eleven extra base hits and a .714 SLG. Both Brett Baty and Francisco Alvarez had the night off.

  • LHP Franklin Parra: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 K, 3 BB | 1-0, 4.05 ERA, 0.90 WHIP
  • RHP Noah Nunez: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 K, 0 BB, Win | 2-2, 4.73 ERA, 1.58 WHIP

After three straight dominant appearance to start the season, Parra struggled with his command walking three of the seven batters he faced and allowing a bases loaded 3-run double before being removed from the game. Luckily, Nunez stepped up and was nearly perfect for the Mets tossing 4.1 innings of work while striking out five and holding the Marlins to only one hit.

DSL Mets1 (20-15) 2, DSL Twins (11-24) 0 Box Score

The DSL 1 squad managed to score two runs with registering an RBI despite having thirteen opportunities with runners in scoring position. Both runs scored via throwing errors by the Twins in the sixth inning.

  • RHP Luis Moreno: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 0 BB, Win | 1-1, 3.16 ERA, 1.32 WHIP

Despite the pale offensive showing, the two runs scored was all that Moreno needed to earn his first victory of his career as he tossed six shutout innings allowing only three base-runners to reach.

DSL Cardinals Red (15-23) 12, DSL Mets2 (17-22) 4 Box Score

It wasn’t a bad day for the DSL 2 team’s offense as they collected ten hits and drew six walks in the game but it certainly could have been better as they left thirteen runners on base.

  • RHP Eiker Huizi: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 0 BB | 4-3, 3.91 ERA, 1.65 WHIP

Enmanuel Almonte, Kevin Hernandez, Rolfy Vargas, and Luis Silverio combined to allow twelve runs to score on fifteen hits and eight walks as the DSL 2 team was completely dominated. Huizi was the only pitcher to not allow a run to score on the day.
