Rochester (41-42) 6, Syracuse (41-44) 3 Box Score

The Syracuse offense collected eight hits on the night but the team could not sustain rallies in the first, third, and fifth innings. Cecchini had the team’s only extra base hit of the night in his first game with the (AAA) team.

  • RHP Drew Gagnon: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 8 K, 1 BB | 2-2, 2.01 ERA, 1.12 WHIP
  • RHP Paul Sewald: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 K, 0 BB, Loss | 3-2, 4.15 ERA, 1.47 WHIP
  • LHP Daniel Zamora: 0.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 K, 1 BB, Blown Save | 1-1, 5.40 ERA, 1.11 WHIP

Gagnon struck out a season high eight as he pitched well enough to leave the game in position to pick up the win. Unfortunately the bullpen could not hold the lead as Sewald allowed singles to three of the four batters he faced followed by Zamora allowing all three of the batters he faced to reach base, allowing two inherited runners to score along the way.

Erie (44-37) 4, Binghamton (40-41) 3 Box Score

  • SS Andres Gimenez: 2-for-4, R, 2B, RBI(19), Caught Stealing, K | .235/.305/.344

Peterson registered his third quality start of the season as he completed a seventh inning of work for only the second time this season. After a rough patch in late May/early June, Peterson has been much better over his last four starts averaging 6.1 IP while holding opponents to a 3.60 ERA on a .253 AVG against. He has also registered double digit swings and misses in all four games resulting in an excellent 14.8% Swinging Strike Rate.

The St. Lucie offense had seven hits on the night but could not drive guys in as the team was a collective 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The one successful attempt occurred in the fourth inning when Bohanek and Winaker hit back to back doubles to score the team’s only run of the night.

  • LHP Thomas Szapucki: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 0 BB | 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.00 WHIP
  • RHP Carlos Hernandez: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, Loss | 1-3, 5.63 ERA, 1.35 WHIP

Szapucki’s first (A+) start was his career was cut short after only two batters due to a rain delay. While the delay was only 45 minutes long, with the organization being extra cautious with him coming off of Tommy John Surgery, they chose to end his night early. Hernandez picked up the bulk of the innings out of the pen and was solid but a home run allowed in the fourth was all that the Stone Crabs needed to walk away with the win.

DSL Mets1 (16-9) 7, DSL Phillies Red (14-11) 6 Box Score

The DSL Mets1 got awfully lucky in the bottom of the ninth inning when a two out 3rd strike got past the catcher allowing Dominguez to reach base. The next batter, Castillo hit a line drive single to right field that got past the right fielder allowing Dominguez to score all the way from first to tie the game. Castillo would move up to second on the throw. The team would win it one batter later on an RBI single by Bradly Encarnacion.
