After a slow start to the season, one that could have been fueled by a move to the outfield or moving up a level, Jhoan Urena has been on fire during the Month of May.

Entering last night, he was hitting .324/.370/.541 during the month with three doubles, a homer, and six RBI. During this terrific stretch, he’s had four three hit games. After last night, that number went up to five.

In Binghamton’s 6-4 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Urena would play a big part going 3-5 with an RBI.

Impressively, one of his three hits cane against Jordan Johnson, who MLB Pipeline rates as the Giants 19th best prospect.

After this game and this terrific stretch, Urena has gone from hitting to .230/.262/.344 to hitting .293/.331/.457. Quickly, he’s emerging as the best hitting outfielder on the Rumble Ponies.

That’s an important development for the switch hitting Urena in a Mets organization looking high and low for right-handed hitting outfielders. For now, it’s exciting to see Urena get back to hitting well and his continued improvement in the outfield.
