As reported by MMN‘s own Matthew Brownstein, the New York Mets have promoted INF Mark Vientos from the Gulf Coast League to the Kingsport Mets. The Kingsport Mets have four games remaining in their season.
After an initial adjustment period for the young infielder, Vientos has hit better over the past month. In that time frame, he is hitting .280/.327/.441 with six doubles, three homers, and 14 RBI. This stretch has accounted for half of his doubles and three of his four homers. Overall, Vientos has played 47 games this season splitting time fairly evenly between shortstop (19 games), third base (14 games), and DH (14 games). On the season, Vientos is hitting .259/.316/.397 with 12 doubles, four homers, and 24 RBI.
Vientos, 17, was the Mets second round pick this year out of American Heritage High School (Plantation, FL). He was recently ranked by MMN as the Mets 10th best prospect.
