MMN Recap: Smith Extends Hit Streak To Twelve Games, Rasquin Has Five Hits

Memphis Redbirds (63-35) 6, Las Vegas 51s (37-62) 0  Box Score

Las Vegas’ offense was held to just six hits in the shutout. Smith extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Amed Rosario missed his fourth straight game with a bruised index finger.

After having an 11.2 inning scoreless streak snapped, McGowan has allowed two runs in each of his last two appearances.

Harrisburg Senators (40-57) 1, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (52-42) 0  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies couldn’t get anything going on offense. They were held to just four hits in the shutout.

Oswalt pitched very well in this game, needing just 76 pitches to throw six shutout innings. In three of his last five starts, Oswalt has pitched at least six innings without allowing a run.

Florida Fire Frogs (35-55) 4, St. Lucie Mets (44-52) 1  Box Score

The Mets were shut down in this game by Braves prospect, Touki Toussaint, who struck out eleven batters over eight innings. The Mets’ lone run came on an eighth inning home run by Rodriguez.

Gibbons made his first start of the season with St. Lucie and was very efficient, not walking anyone and needing just 81 pitches to get through six innings. Canelon has been excellent in his first season pitching as a reliever.

Lexington Legends (48-47) 2, Columbia Fireflies (51-44) 1  Box Score

The Fireflies had just three hits in this game and their lone run came on a seventh inning home run by Winningham. Gimenez extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Brooklyn Cyclones (11-20) 10, Connecticut Tigers (14-14) 6  Box Score

Brooklyn’s offense had a huge night, scoring 10 runs on 15 hits. Brodey hit his first professional home run, a grand slam which blew the game open in the eighth inning. Rasquin had a career-high and franchise record-tying five hits in the game.

De Los Santos made his first start of the season and pitched poorly, getting knocked out of the game in the third inning after allowing four runs. Kines, who won Pitcher of the Week in the NYPL last week, pitched 4.1 solid innings in relief.

Kingsport’s offense continues to be excellent as they scored eight runs in this game, the fourth time in the past week the team has scored at least eight runs. Vazquez, Paulino, and Rigoberto Terrazas all homered in the game.

2017 draftees Cavallaro and Selmer combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief.

  • Gregory Guerrero 2B: 1 for 4, RBI, K, .232/.284/.290
  • Mark Vientos SS: 1 for 3, BB, .236/.311/.364
  • Raul Beracierta RF: 1 for 3, R, BB, K, .208/.250/.283

The Mets struggled to get much going on offense, scoring just two runs on six hits. Edinson Valdez scored their first run on an error in the second inning and Guerrero singled home Beracierta in the seventh to push across their second run.

Campos started the game for the Mets and struck out eight in just four innings of work. Villanueva has struggled with control so far this season, walking eight and hitting two in 6.1 innings.

DSL Mets1 (28-13) 6, DSL Rockies (21-20) 1  Box Score

The Mets pushed across six runs on ten hits in this game. They were aided by five Rockies errors and only two of the six runs were earned.

Mena started the game for the Mets and was excellent, tossing five shutout innings, striking out five without walking any batters.

DSL Mets2 (29-12) 4, DSL Rangers2 (24-17) 1  Box Score

The Mets scored four runs on seven hits in the game. They entered the ninth inning in a 1-1 tie, but were able to put up three runs in the inning to take the lead.

Sanchez was dominant in his seven innings of work, giving up just one unearned run and striking out eight batters.
